Ever heard of the Monkey King Sun Wukong? The monkeys spotted all around Chinatown, such as the street light-up and the peach trees represent the grandchildren of this great legend! With the arrival of a new year, the monkeys along the streets of Chinatown present the peaches to wish everybody health and longevity.
This year, the year of the Monkey, marks a brand new beginning, a brand new start for most, if not all of us. This “start” is going to be extraordinary especially when Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng Citizens’ Consultative Committee also known as KA-KS CCC has organised this year’s celebrations in Chinatown themed “Year of Prosperity & Success” with stunning performances and events lined up for everyone to indulge in, such as the “My Father Tongue” Exhibition, Festive Street Bazaar & Carnival, 9th International Lion Dance Competition and also the Street Light-Up! There is so much more to look forward to! Don’t be surprised if you find yourself staring at the lightings in awe because this year is definitely greater! There is a record breaking of a total of 2,668 handcrafted lanterns, hence it will be a spectacular sight for all to see!
